Newbery Club
  • Lufkin Road Middle School Newbery Club includes students, teachers and media specialists who are enthusiastic about reading. We get the opportunity to read books that have just been published and then have lively discussions about them.  Using criteria from the American Library Association, members decide which book is worthy of receiving our “Mock Newbery Award.”  We make our final selection just before ALA announces the official Newbery Award winner in January.

Meetings from 2:30-3:30 are scheduled on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month through December.  In order to participate in the final voting and celebration in January, each member must attend four meetings and read five books.

Check the Media Center webpage on the Lufkin Road website for a complete schedule. If you like to read, plan to join us!

Advisers are:  Sandra Boyd, Hannah Jernigan, and Susie Winton
